Dr. Melissa Vito Named Dr. Kent L. Gardner Award Winner

Dr. Melissa Vito, Senior Vice President for Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, and Strategic Initiatives, will be receiving the Dr. Kent L. Gardner Award from the Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors. The award, established in 2013 by AFA in honor of Dr. Kent L. Gardner, recogizes a university admininstrator who exemplifies commitment to fraternities and sororities through the development of partnerships, creation of positive change, and mentoring of new and seasoned professionals. 

"Dr. Vito has served as a tireless champion for the fraternity and sorority community," according to AFA. In her career in Student Affairs, which has spanned over 40 years at the University of Arizona, she has secured two grants totaling over $400,000 from the U.S. Department of Education to address high risk drinking among fraternity and sorority members.

In addition, Dr. Vito also led the UA to become one of the initial members of the National Hazing Prevention Coalition.
